Museum presents “Black & White”

QUEEN VICTORIA AND COCO CHANEL are featured in the Renton History Museum’s latest exhibit, “Black & White,” which examines trendsetters in women’s fashion. The exhibit uses rarely seen items from the museum’s textile collection and traces the evolution of women’s fashions from conservative hats and veils and white wedding dresses worn in the Victorian era to the influence of Chanel, who is credited with the popularity of the little black dress, suiting, and use of accessories. The museum is also celebrating Black History Month.

Two Living Voices events are scheduled for March in celebration of Women’s History Month and Cesar Chavez Day. On the 3rd, Hear My Voice will tell a story of the fight for women’s suffrage. On the 31st La Causa examines the 1960’s Latin American farm workers movement and their battle for civil rights.
